A text repeater sounds like a toy, until you need 300 identical rows, a numbered template or a comma-separated list in ten seconds. Here are ten practical uses, each with the settings to use in our text repeater.

1. Fill a spreadsheet column

Need the same value in 500 cells? Repeat it with a New line separator, copy, and paste into the first cell. Spreadsheets drop each line into its own row.

Settings: text = Pending, count = 500, separator = New line.

2. Create a checklist template

Settings: text = Task, prefix = - [ ] , numbering on, separator = New line.

Result:

1. - [ ] Task
2. - [ ] Task
3. - [ ] Task

Paste into Markdown, Notion, GitHub issues or Obsidian.

3. Generate SQL or code values

Settings: text = (NULL, 'test', NOW()), separator = Comma + space, count = 100.

Paste the result after INSERT INTO table VALUES. More recipes in Build Lists for Spreadsheets and Code With a Text Repeater.

4. Stress-test a layout

Repeat a long word, such as Supercalifragilistic, with No separator to check how your design handles text that can’t wrap. Or repeat a sentence 200 times to test scrolling and overflow. See How to Generate Test Data Quickly With Repeated Text.

5. Test form and input limits

Need exactly 256 characters to test a field’s maximum? Repeat a 256 times with no separator. The result counter shows the exact character count.

6. Make dividers and borders

Repeat ─, =, * or · with no separator to create text dividers for plain-text emails, READMEs or code comments.

7. Practise writing and spelling

Teachers and language learners use repetition for handwriting and spelling practice sheets. Repeat a word with a Blank line separator for spacious practice lines, then print.

8. Build placeholder lists

Need a numbered placeholder list for a document draft? Text = Item, numbering on, separator = New line, count = 20. For paragraph-style filler, use the lorem ipsum generator instead.

9. Social posts and messages

Repeating a word or phrase for emphasis or fun is the classic use. Please use it kindly: mass-repeating messages to spam people or groups breaks most platforms’ rules.

10. Create test files of a known size

Repeat a 100-character line 10,000 times and Download .txt to get a file of about 1 MB, useful for testing upload limits.

Tips

  • Trim removes stray spaces so separators stay consistent.
  • Use \n in a custom separator for line breaks, e.g. \n---\n.
  • Output is capped at about 2 million characters to keep your browser responsive.
  • Check the final length with the word counter before pasting into a field with limits.
